This rare photo is a photocopy of a poorly printed photo in a magazine. However it is the only record of the Ambulance and Fire Station, building No.5 on the Headquarters site. It shows the entrance (currently bricked up) that faces the road to Crays Pond. The Fire tender and two fire pumps can bee seen, with the Fire engine still inside the shed.
The annotation to the photo states 'Senior Fireman - G. Clack; Firemen - L.R. Hutchings; W.E. Whiteman; G. Timms; A. Higley; W. Nash; F. Gibbs; S/Ldr. H.L. Watson; P/O. D.H.Fincham'
I have since been informed by a relative that the man standing in the back row on the far right is definitely Frank (also known as Bob) Gibbs.
Trevor Back was sorting through his late Mother's photos and came across the excellent quality one on the right which he has allowed me to use. In addition he has allowed me to include a copy of a Christmas Party for children, probably in the this building, and probably around 1944.
